THE DAM
OF PLACE MOULIN

THE DAM

The Place Moulin dam is one of the largest dams in Europe. A spectacular work of engineering built between 1955 and 1965. At 155 metres high and 678 metres long, it can collect up to 105 million cubic metres of water and is fed by a catchment area of 137 km2.

It is a mighty arch-gravity structure that is 47 metres thick at the base and gradually narrows to 6.43 metres at the top. An effective system that allows internal inspection of the entire structure thanks to the presence of two perimeter tunnels and eight horizontal tunnels that can be used by technicians for various checks.
During the summer season it is possible to take guided tours of the dam, and the road that runs alongside it is one of the most evocative and photographed walks in the entire Aosta Valley. In autumn, the strong colours of the vegetation shelter the crystal clear and unmistakable water of this artificial lake,
For fishing enthusiasts, the Place Moulin dam is an excellent basin in which to spend whole days of relaxation: for more information, consult the website of the Regional Consortium for Fishing.
